How do I know if what I'm using is right for my skin tone?
So ideally, when you have your makeup on, you want to be matching to your chest colour. So everything wants to match from the face to the chest but bearing in mind the neck is always a little bit paler. Facial skin might have more pinky tones, but ultimately, once you've got your base on, you want your face to match your body.
Makeup definitely doesn't last on my skin like it used to. What should I be using or how should I be adapting my makeup to help?
So, a couple of points with this.
1. Skin needs to be prepped correctly and not over moisturised. A lot of people use lots of layers, so try to avoid otherwise the skin becomes too oily, but at the same time ensure it's nicely hydrated. This can be best achieved with a couple of finer layers.
2. Don’t forget to leave time in between the application of each product so it can really sink in, this avoids pilling of products.
3. Diet, sleep and hydration! These are all going to make a difference to your skin.
4. A lot of people don't use powder because they are worried it's going to mattify or make them look a bit flat. I always use a translucent powder on myself. Depending on somebody's skin type I might use a slightly heavier powder, but it's really, really important to set the makeup with a little powder so it stays on, even if it's just a bit through the T Zone, it's not going to last as long if you haven't set it.
I seem to have a makeup bag which is full of products, and I only use about five. What would you say are the key items to have to hand?
Firstly, a good tinted moisturiser that's got a high SPF in it - this is a great product that does it all. And after that, my queen of a product would be a concealer so that you can basically go in and touch up any other areas that haven't held on with foundation.
Lash curlers, because I've got quite straight lashes and by lifting the lashes, the eyes can appear so much brighter!
Definitely a really good brow pencil, because good brows lift the whole face. There are loads of good options on the high street for these.
A cream blusher. These days I definitely choose cream blusher over bronzer. Choose a nice lifting colour that's going to suit your skin and apply a bit higher up on the cheekbone.
The Brightening Day Shield. This product is amazing! Everybody needs a tube of this! It's hydrating, but it's slightly mattifying and it's got very fine little particles in it that just give the skin a really subtle glow. And if you need more moisture, you can put a little bit more on. If your skin is more oily, you could use more of an oil free moisturiser and just use this on the cheeks. That's basically it!
